Last Week

Last week was quite successful for me on the running front. The injury cleared up and I managed a couple of double day sessions, although very short second runs. Monday started with 5x1k (actually 3:45 so about 1050m) with 60 seconds rest with Liz around Green Park. Tuesday was the usual 9x 2mins which I did by myself and managed not to record the distance. Wednesday liz and I ran to Battersea park and did the outside loop on the paths 2.5 miles then I measured out various loops for her, in the end I ran 10 miles. Thursday was the handicap race. I was aiming for 22:00 mins as noone had managed the time this year, but as there were only 2 of us, Katie and myself it was unlikely. Katie had a 2 minute handicap and was aiming for 24 mins. In the end I almost caught her finishing 15 seconds behind. Katie 23:56, myself 22:10. Thursday PM was the second session of the day and I learn’t my lesson from 2 weeks ago so just ran directly home (2.1 miles). Friday morning was the same run back and then 3x1.5 miles at 5:55 pace (half marathon pace) with 1 min recovery. Sunday I managed a sneaky 25 minute session while son number 2 was swimming and did 8x200m with 45 sec jog between. Total distance : 50.4 miles.
This week the plan is something similar:
Monday: 5 x 3 mins at 5k pace with 1 min rec
Tuesday 9x 2 mins with 1 min rec
Wednesday - Bridges handicap race (2.34 miles)
Thursday – 4x5 mins with 2 mins recovery, PM 5 miles
Friday – AM 5 miles, 3x2miles at half pace
Sunday - 8x200m with 45 sec
Total 52.2 miles
On the home front, yesterday I was stripping….walls. After 2 years in our house I thought it was time for us to decorate our bedroom. I managed to strip the whole room, so the next task will be to paint the artex before starting on the walls. On Saturday we all went to a firework display at a local village (Gt Gransden). The display was excellent and for a village of 800 people almost everyone was there, they had a burger stall, a small ‘bar’ and a local band playing before anything even started. The highlight though was the fireworks made helicopter and tank shapes and they were firing fireworks at each other! Saturday saw the usual swimming in the morning, but in the afternoon we went to our friends jewellers in Bedford as they had a 50% off sale. Luckily we were looking for the Mother in law. There was this beautiful 3 diamond (2 carat) ring in platinum reduced from 10k to 5k. The missus obviously tried it on but luckily we didn’t buy it!
Keep up the running.
