Steve Canueto - Longest and most rewarding run to date.. A REAL BUZZ!

Hello friends,
It's been a while... I don't know how people find the time to to all they need to do in every day life, AND train for a marathon, AND write a blog every few days! Time soon runs away with you..Anyhoo, it's been another roller-coaster 2 weeks, with a slow recovery from my previous knee issue meaning there wasn't much to write about really!I threw out the training schedule I was working to and devised my own for last week, designed to get some runs in to keep fitness up, but not stressing my knee to much and allowing it to recover enough for another long one on Sunday.. so the week went like this:Steve Canueto - 22nd to 28th March 2010Monday - RestTuesday - 5.85m steady run, 46minsWeds - Rest & StretchesThurs - Rest & Physio Treatment for ITBFri - 5.15 mile good pace, 37 minsSat - Rest (and eat LOADS)Sun.....Well, Sunday was amazing - I set off full of energy (and positive affirmations that my knee wouldn't let me down) and had the most incredible, exhilarating, rewarding 22.5 mile run, in a time of 3hr 32secs.. my knees survived and energy-wise I could have carried on for another 4 miles no problem..but thought I wouldn't push my luck too far!!The knee issue did return, but I followed the advice of my physio and stopped to stretch my hamstrings, quads, glutes and ITB as soon as it started to twinge - and was amazed to find that the pain went away and I got another few miles twinge-free. I did this 3 times, at miles 13, 16.5 and 18.5 and the last 4 miles were literally pain-free, it just seemed to settle down.... amazing. I now know that even if my knee plays up on the big day, I have a proven strategy to deal with it and I can proudly run across the line (he hopes!)I also ran on roads as much as I could safely, this meant I reduced the amount of kerbs, cambers, rough services and level-changes that blighted my last long run, and this tactic definitely reduce the wear and tear on the knees.. also managed to hold a steady pace of 8.05/mile - lovely..Once again the human body (and spirit) prevails and I achieved something I never thought I'd be able to do...something that will serve me well in all areas of my life..This week, 35 miles across 4 runs, with a 'short' long one of 13 miles on Sunday. Then a build up to a 24 miler next Sunday before tapering off for the Marathon.. can't wait!More soon, hopefully sooner than this one!!Sx
