Yay! Progress

Hey,
Yesterday was a good day! After a bit of slacking on my part with regards to training and not pushing myself as hard as I could my mate said he would come training with me and give me a bit of a push and some competition!
We decided on the gym as the weather was a bit ropey...but wished we'd done a road run as the gym was heaving! not a treadmill free! We waited for 5mins thinking a couple might free up but it seemed the hardcore set were in and set for the duration so we opted for the bike for a while. 15mins later (and with numb bums - gym bikes are not comfy!!) I had won that challenge - i was using level 5 and kept my RPM at 85 or over for the full 15mins! (apart from a brief period where my mate put my level up to 10 when he saw I was beating him!lol)
Then as the treadmills were still occupied we did 5mins on the caridowave - a funny lateral stepper thing which can be a bugger on your thighs when you're not used to it!
Then we managed to get a couple of treadmils, so after a brief stretch and walk up i went to jogging speed and here comes the big news......are you ready for this....I managed a BIG milestone.....I JOGGED FOR 5MINS WITHOUT STOPPING!!! That's right - even after a decent paced 15mins on the bike I still managed 5mins jogging! I was so proud of myself!! I only managed about 10mins jogging in total (the other 5mins in intervals) as my legs were starting to feel shot and I could feel my balance going a bit - I was feeling myself leaning further and further forward when I was jogging (more work on core needed!) so I wacked up the incline and did an incline walk for a few more mins to finish off!!
Then it was onto the mats for some abs and stretches.
It might seem like a small goal to some but i was so proud of myself, esp as I managed it after the other stuff!!!!
Anyway, must be off to continue to bask in my glory (and nurse my aching bum and legs!!)

philk 'Any thoughts that maybe the long warm up contributed to your longer run? Sometimes when I cycle to where I want to run I find my muscles are ready and raring to go and my running is a lot better. Try it again next time you go to the gym and see if it happens again. Also, when you run to netball, do you find you play a bit better (it is you that runs to netball isn't it?)? But otherwise, BLOODY FANTASTIC! Well done.' added 17th Nov 2009
