Decisions, decisions

Oct30200910:11 a.m.

I did chicken out of my run last night in the end.  I did fancy going but it was late again and past 8pm my motivation had deserted me, so I staying in with a glass of wine instead!  I am probably in need of an easy week afterall, at least that is my excuse.  Next week I can get back to my daytime runs on Tuesday and Wednesday.

I am now in full fundraising mode as so far I have raised precisely nothing!  This will change now my charity has decided which website to use.  So Justgiving it is and now I can try to publicise my attempt more - £1500 seems a long way off so any fundraising tips would be great.  I have never attempted to raise this much money before and it seems more daunting than the actual running.

I am organising nearly new sale for the NCT in November so I will don my running stuff and am getting a T-shirt printed so hopefully I can raise my profile and persuade some shoppers to sponsor me as it should be a good opportunity to reach a wide audience.  I will need to think of some more events and maybe press coverage nearer the time to help.

The most exciting thing yesterday was the arrival of the Marathon magazine, which makes it all seem much more real.  I was looking through the training schedule and now I am not sure what to follow!  I had decided on the schedule in the Rough Guide to running book, which is based on mileage and includes cross training.  But now I am wondering if a time based schedule with different intensities would be better, particularly as I would like to get as close to 4 hours (I can dream can't I?!) as humanly possible.  Maybe I could try to combine the two somehow - decisions, decisions!  If anyone has any advice on training schedules it would be gratefully received!  I am aiming to run at least 4 times a week, with maybe a 5th session on my bike, which is easier for me because I can take my youngest daughter on the back .  Oh, I will make up my mind soon!

Hope everyone is well and is more decisive than me!

  • Petecw29 'Hi Suzie, my instincts and experience say go with the mileage schedule but as I've never used a schedule based on times then that was easy for me to answer. If you feel comforatble with the mileage version then go with it and you'll be able to equate the distance you run with the distance of the marathon. Having veriety in your training is important but in the end it'll be about the long runs and the miles you get in. Good luck and enjoy it. Happy running!' added 30th Oct 2009
