Longest training run yet
Yesterday on a beautiful unseasonably warm March morning, the day before the first day of spring, I set out for Central Park at 10 am, armed with two torq gels in a new belt and a small bottle of water. I did two 6 plus mile loops of the park and then a Fred Lebow memorial 5, trying to run on soft ground wherever possible. The last loop was unquestionably hard and I don't know how I will add another eight miles. I had a gel and water after each loop but felt real energy drain towards the end. My knees were hurting at the end, above and below the kneecap. Came home, did ice and Advil, stretched. Collapsed at 9:30 pm though I had been up since 6:30 so that partly explains the exhaustion. Had a big Greek salad for lunch with Amy, then a mushroom dish made by Mom at night. Could not keep my eyes open for Fawlty Towers or the West Wing. I pray for a cloudy cool day on April 25. The heat is a killer. Just about a month to go now.
