Basking in glory....and deep heat....

Apr0720084:36 p.m.

...just fantasising about this time next week. I envisage sitting here, unable to stand up without hoisting myself up on my desk but grinning inanely to myself. At least I hope so, I actually hope not to be too sore but that may be asking a little too much!

so this time next week it'll all be over. It's slight;y worrying this is all I am thinking about. I clearly have some mental block surrounding the next 5 days and following 26.2 miles.

A little update on the state of play and health, mental and physical!

The training has been good. I don't think I have really covered enough miles, but I can't worry too much about that now! I have really missed my long runs this weekend and last weekend! Although I have appreciated the crazy weather. I feel that Sunday can throw pretty much anything at me weather-wise and I'll be OK. Just hope it's not too hot...or snowing...

I am pretty much injury free. My right foot is a little tight (when I scrunch my toes up it is a little sore and then starts to cramp) and the inside of my left thigh is quite tight when I stretch but I feel neither when I run, so fingers crossed! I have felt a bit achy and flu-like over the past week and really lethargic. Although I had a light gym session this morning and went for a 15 min run at the end of it and had bounds of energy. It was really hard to stop myself from just carrying on - which must be a good sign!

I am really quite emotional about it all (typical girl!!) I keep wanting to burst into tears!! Not looking forward to the start - Mum has offered to come with me but I just don't know where she'll be allowed (as opposed to runners).....otherwise it's around 2 and a half hours on my own before the start. I am also starting to worry about getting cold while waiting. Am going to have to raid my brothers' wardrobes to find an old jumper and maybe some track pants that I can then discard - and of course the trusty dust bin bag cape!

Technique and pacing wise I have thrown it all out the window really!! Not in an 'i-give-up' sort of way but I have decided for this first attempt just to start at a comfortable/slow pace and try and maintain it. It worked for my half marathon (just over 2hrs, very hilly and very windy so I was pleased!). I will have my watch but I'll try not to get too fixated on it. I have a feeling that this will not be my last marathon attempt (seriously considering NY but it is sooooooooooo expensive!)! I'm still aiming for 4hrs 30.......

Anyone know when best to get a massage? As soon as possible afterwards? The next day? Any old excuse really......

Am off to worry about other things.....like needing a wee and there being no port-a-loos close by.....just missing 4hrs 30 because of excessive toilet stops....being over taken by a womble....
