Happy new home and training on the track....

Dec01201110:01 a.m.

Well, what a weekend I had but unfortunately I started this week's training with very sore arms, as we spent 3 days lifting the entire contents of my house from my old house to the new one! I've been very excited about this move for a very long time and I think it's only just sunk in that we've left our old place, where we were for 5 years and moved into a nice new house. We're obviously loving it so far and I'm excited to call this my new home. It's been a bit tough cramming in my training with all the moving going on, particularly as on Saturday I didn't have a minute to sit down all day but with a bit of time management I had a decent training week.

On Tuesday night I did my first track session back since the end of the season. We did 4 x 5minutes with 2 minutes rest. We were covering between 1750m and 1800m, but the best thing about this session is whatever level of ability you're at, you can all train together because after 5 minutes you just stop and walk back to the start no matter where you finish on the track! People may ask me why I am on the track this early and sometimes it's difficult to think what is best for my performance, but I really enjoy the track and I think it's important to keep in touch with your speed over the winter.

I'm running with some really strong athletes as well in Loughborough at the moment, some who are faster then myself, so it really helps me raise my level over time and improve my running. As athletes at any level, we often enter deep discussions about the perfect training plan for performance, but to be honest there are so many ways to skin a cat it's ridiculous! I find it almost pointless to get too involved in these sort of discussions as the most important thing is that you believe in what you're doing otherwise it will never work. Especially in our sport of Triathlon, there are so many ways to reach a high level. I know guys who like to train much less and recover more. I also know athletes who just flog themselves the whole year and some athletes who don't even touch the track all year! I'm looking forward to this first week training from my new home, but in a week's time I'm heading out to Lanzarote with British Triathlon for a block of training. Bring it on!
