first GMR, the aftermath by ange_h

About

Well.  I did it, I actually did it! I took part in my first 10k, the Bupa Great Manchester 10k in May 2008.  There were times when I thought...

...it's been a few weeks...so here is a summary for self....

Went to GoApe, had a great time but hurt for days after.

First proper training run since Bupa 10k was the Thursday before the City of Manchester 10k.  BUT, the day after my hip hurt like mad.  It cleared by the Sunday so decided to do the 10k.

City of Manchester 10k - mentally a very tough course I felt.  Found it really hard going, but put this down to lack of training and decided to call it a 'base fitness' run.  At around 6k my hip started to hurt, by 8k every time my left leg went down it was really painful.

Finished the run, got a PB [how!?!] - hip hurting.  Monday, hip hurting, me thinks maybe I'm not being mard and perhaps a trip to the docs.  Then, I go to get up off the sofa and get an almighty crack in lower back/hip region.  I thinks 'Ah!  Osteopath!'.

Went to the osteopath, turns out my sacral joint [bottom of spine, in pelvis] was out of kilter......no wonder it hurt!  Anyway, painful massage and few cracks later it all felt ok.

So, have had a week's rest now, and did a gente treadmill session on tuesday, and another on Saturday trying to increase my speed.

Then, this morning I decided to go and do my 5k in Heaton Park.  Walking to the park I thinks 'there seems to be a lot of people around...', started doing my wee jog...when i start to hear the familiar thud thud pant.....and was passed by a herd of runners!  There was a 10k on!

So, well done to anyone who was in the 10k in Heaton Park....but you didnt half put me off my run!  I gave up and walked in the end...

Have a follow up with the osteopath tomorrow, then aming for treadmill on tuesday and MFR Thursday run...

    Good week all
