Must try harder...
Aug0120088:20 p.m.
I push myself until it hurts and then carry on for a bit, and a bit more but I still don't seem to be increasing my 'running ability'. I'm only training once a week at the mo, maybe I should try and fit in at least one more.
I really want to do well in this 10k, but at the pace I seem to be going at the moment I'm looking at about 2 hours for it, and that's no good!
My husband runs with me on a friday morning and he's great at pushing me. He times me doing interval training and today introduced me to pyramid training - knackered me out!!
I could do with some motivational tips if anyone has any? Thanks!!

weefanta 'Good for you to start running. You still have enough time for your 10K but you need to run more than once per week. You say you're running it with your husband, how often does he train? Can you alternate your training so that there is someone there with the kids? I know it is very difficult to train and have a normal family life!!! I'm married with no kids and still find it difficult so I can only imagine what it's like with a family. Have you looked at any training programmes you could follow? This will help you but I think it will need more than one day per week training. It's not easy having a family life and trying to train but the rewards are worth it - just think when you cross that finish line!!!' added 1st Aug 2008

smellslikeangels 'Hi Katie. To really improve your running fitness, you should be out there three times a week running, and building up the time spent on your feet both running and walking to increase your length strength and endurance. Know this might seem like a lot but if your hubby is a runner, Im sure he will support you in finding the time to get these runs in? Have you got a training plan? There are some really good ones on Runners World or the JogScotland 10 training plan is really easy and basic and builds up slowly so you dont hurt yourself' added 1st Aug 2008

SuperCaz 'Sonds to me liek you need to be concentrating on distance more, and not so much on the speed sessions. I would suggest building on the distance until you can run continuously for at least 30 min, then you can have a look at your speed.' added 11th Aug 2008

aleisethefunny 'Ok here's a great website for you http://www.runnersworld.com/ this website has a online tool called smart coach. All you have to do is enter a few stats abut yourself and what you are training for and it comes up with a personalized training plan. It's wonderful. Good luck.' added 17th Aug 2008
