Bonjour - Back in one piece!

Mar0720107:10 p.m.

Hi All

Returned from Les Deux Alpes yesterday after having the best week EVER

I went skiing for the first time ever with my brother, Paul, who is a snowboarder, but I will not hold it against him!  After staying in a chalet all week with 6 blokes and 1 girl, with 3 of the blokes snoring loud enough to set off avalanches, you could say I am a wee bit tired, but I had so much fun, it was worth every sleepless night, bruise, bang and bandage I am wearing right now!!

Ok, so I am fibbing about the bandages and I am very proud of my war wounds, which include a VERY bruised left shin from top to bottom, a very dodgy swallen left index finger, an achey right wrist, the biggest bruise ever on my right elbow and a couple of minor bruises on my right thigh!  But....... no broken bones, so all is well in the world!!!! yay!!!

So, a very quick round up of my 1st ever week of skiing, from day 1 - 6  .............

Day 1 - I was like Bambi on ice as soon as I put the skis on and fell straight into a bush before getting stuck at the top of a slope for at least an hour wondering how on earth I would ever get down!

Day 2 - Started practising again and decided I had a dodgy left ski as it would not do anything I wanted it to do!!  Paul laughed at me and said there was no way I was taking it back to the shop and it must have been me!  Went a third of the way up the mountain and both my brother and I thought we would need mountain rescue to get me back down!  With the edge of the mountain only about 6ft away, my left knee was permenantly stuck to the mountain wall all the way down!  I have never been so scared in my whole life!

Day 3 - Little bro had a bad hangover, so I decided to attempt the same route alone as the day before after more practise at the bottom.  Very proud of myself as I managed it alot quicker and actually skiiing too!!!

Day 4 - Took on bigger challenges going further up the mountain and took on the biggest momma ever...... OK, well it was only a blue run, but it a beast!!  Started to feel like I knew what I was doing- get me!

Day 5 - Paul and I went up the very top of the mountain.  It was so foggy and cold, but we decided we had to ski and snowboard all the way down to the bottom in case the Glazier was closed the next day.  Despite not being able to see anything or anyone we had a great run - best of the hols.

Day 6 - The coldest day by a long shot - I thought my lips were going to drop off.  I managed to do 3 full runs of the mountain (2 on my own) and I can officially say I LOVE skiing.... need to go again very soon!

Thanks to my little bro for being so patient with me, I had a great time!  Laughing

So back to the running.... I only managed to get in 2 runs through the week as I was skiing from dawn to dusk each day.

To get straight back on the horse I managed a 10 miler today in the sunshine and it was great to get back out there.  I did not really feel like I had worked out all week, so this was perfect to get me back on track.

I am concious I need to add on the miles this week with a good LSR and I want to get a 15 miler in towards the end of the week.  Coming home has reminded me how much work I still need to do, but the break was great and I am ready for the challenge!

Have a great week all! Tongue out

Good luck with the 15 miler at the end of the week and thanks for the comments on my blog. Not long until London! Atchoo!' added 8th Mar 2010
