What will become of Sundays?

Apr18201010:19 p.m.

Since well before Christmas now Sunday's have been planned to a tee.  The route I will take, how far I will run, depending on the weather, what I will wear, my Ipod fully charged, some change to tuck into my Ipod case for Rowntrees Randoms and a Lucozade, what I will eat, etc etc...

So, today was a mixture of feelings as I set off on my final LSR .... well, not really an LSR, just an 8 miler.  I have decided 8 miles is my favourite length of run.  It is long enough to have a good work out and get a bit of speed going too.  With this in mind, I am going to see next Sunday as a couple of miles warm up and 3 X 8 milers all in one go...... surely that will be a doddle! haha

My final LSR was in the full sunshine on my old favourite route through Farcet, Yaxley, Hampton and Fletton.  I cannot imagine not running on a Sunday anymore, so I have decided I will keep this going, when I can..... although without the challenge to keep me focused, my bed might well have different ideas! haha

So, this week is all about sorting out the final plans... I don't normally write lists, but I have set up a list on my Iphone of everything I need to take with me next Saturday.  I am so scared about forgetting my running number letter, or my photo ID, and even worse, my trainers, that I am planning this with militry precision!

I also had some great news today, which has given me a fantastic boost - my fundraising has gone passed the £1000 mark!! People are being so generous and kind and it is amazing to think I have had so much support and I am getting closer to the target each day - it will be such a relief when I hit it (please let me hit it!!)

Enjoy the last week of planning, resting and carb loading folks!! Tongue outCool

  • glen_b 'Actually, I intend to treat the marathon as a series of smaller races, seems to have worked in my mind for the longer LSRs for some reason. I have focused on the next village, and then when I get there, focus on the next one, etc etc etc. I like 8 miles actually, I think I can see 10 mile races becoming my speciality going forward!!' added 19th Apr 2010

  • Way_Too_Slow 'It's definitely a great idea to break the distance into more manageable chunks, 26 miles is just far too daunting! Don't forget the little things on your list like safety pins for your number, gels etc. I've even worked out a re-fuelling plan and made up pace bands with gel/drinks points marked on them. I don't trust my memory after having run 20 miles! Good luck, enjoy the anticipation for this last week.' added 19th Apr 2010

  • STUBLACK 'I've split it into two runs, a 25 mile slog followed by 1.2 miles milking the crowd as I storm home to win the marathon on world record time. Then I wake up and realise how deluded I really am. i think it's a great way of getting through splitting it up into chunks, someone told me that psycologically (can't spell) 20 miles is the half way point. I'm sure you'll find a way of filling your Sundays, beer gardens are good in teh summer' added 19th Apr 2010

  • Firefly123 'Definitely a good plan to split the race up - I must give that some thought. I think I've got all my gels sorted out now, so its just a question of hopping on the train on Sunday morning!' added 19th Apr 2010

  • Jenny1961 'Splitting the race into manageable chunks is really good. I'm aiming for chunks of 6 as it helps me to keep a closer eye on my pace-i.e 6 miles is just under 1 hr ( hopefully!) etc. Well done on the fundraising! ' added 19th Apr 2010
