Kilomathon and Sky Sports 4

This week has been surreal, so much has happened.  I didn't think for one minute that I'd be getting interviewed by Sky Sports 4 this weekend.  On Saturday I made my way to Derby to be interviewed by Bryan from CutMustard TV.  I felt quite relaxed about it on the whole, but I did find myself freezing during one of the questions.  On the morning of the Kilomathon Bryan interviewed me again and asked me if I'd eaten my porridge!

I met @nimblerunner and @JamieVJB gave me a kiss! Both of them are experienced runners and really super guys.

After queuing for what seemed an eternity for the toilets I said my goodbyes to Dad and made my way to the start.  I was pleasantly surprised by the speed through the start, no walking behind other runners at all.  The route took us from Nottingham University campus through Long Eaton and other villages to Alvaston Castle park.  The second half of the race felt really tough in places due to the wind and inclines.  I remembered what @Steve_JB had told me about striding out and found that I covered loads more ground with not much more effort.  Huge thanks to Steve for all the advice he has given me so far.  I collected water, gel and sports drink from every water station to keep me going.  My left quad started to complain from mile 8 onwards but luckily the energy drinks/gel helped with that and got me through to the end.  At the 23k mark I wanted to walk so badly, and even more so when I saw others walking.  But I decided 'no' that wasn't going to happen, with under 2 miles left to go I pushed on.  Found myself growling to psyche myself up, Christ knows what the other runners thought!

As I ran towards the finish line I heard Bryan call my name and mention that I was running for Barnardos.  He cheered me on which gave me second wind to sprint to the finish.  Then he stopped me at the finish to ask me what I felt like, and I couldn't talk I was panting so much.  Managed to finish in 2:51:12 wooohoo a result I'm very pleased with.  Burnt off almost 2000 kcals, no wonder I was physically exhaused afterwards!

The programme I'm featured in is being aired on Sky Sports 4, 26th March at 18:00 let me know what you think!

Would also like to give my congratulations to all the other runners in thre Kilomathon and those who ran the Silverstone Half.  Well done everyone, what a great achievement for Mothers Day.

Catch you later.

xx
