The Kilomathon and BBC Radio Nottingham

Mar12201010 p.m.

Well what can I say! So much has happened since my last post, good and bad.  My shift work has had a detrimental affect on my training so I crammed 16 miles into the weekend.  Blimey did my legs complain a few days later!  Saw the physio and he confirmed that I had shin splints in my right leg, oooh it was very painful.  The dr wouldn't prescribe me any painkillers as she said that my body was telling me to rest it and I should listen.  Her advice was to change my training to non-impact and use the cross trainer, swimming and bike etc.  I listened to the advice given to me and now my leg is fine.  I also bought some New Nike LunarGlide trainers in dark grey and shocking pink!  I gave those puppies a 5k test run on the treadmill, wow, they're brill so comfy. More importantly...NO PAIN! Wooohooo! So I think some of the problem was trainer based.

On Wednesday I was invited in the the studio of BBC Radio Nottingham to tell them about my story and the reasons why I'm running the Kilomathon and VLM for Barnardos.  This was a nerve wracking experience, but the lovely people there were very friendly and did everything they could to relax me and make me feel comfortable.  I met Des the weatherman and was included in their music quiz.  That was totally unexpected!

The organisers of the Kilomathon chose my story and it's snowballed from there really, now Sky Sports will be doing a pre-race interview with me tomorrow and will also be interviewing me before and after the Kilomathon (26.2km Nottm to Derby) on Sunday.  BBC Radio Nottm also want to know how I got on with the race.  Blimey the pressure's on now, please legs don't pack up!

Here's the link to my radio interview http://bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p006qx5t/Frances_Finn_10_03_2010/

Soo, I'll be stretching and warming up for half an hour before the race, loosen those muscles ready for the 16.3 miles ahead of me.

Will keep you posted...

Later taters!
