I ran on Sunday with a neoprene sleeve around my left knee to keep the inflammation down as long as possible. I was able to finish 9 miles with some walking but did experience a lot of discomfort toward the end. I got home and immediately ran my IT band across a foam roller and feel good today. I spent 30 minutes on a non-impact running machine this morning and did some roller and stretching exercises. My wife called me and said that she was able to locate an ultrasound machine and plans to bring it home for the week. I'm blessed to be married to a wonderful wife who's also an therapist. I'm thinking non-impact exercise the rest of the way, along with rest, ice, stretch, roller and compression. If anyone has any last minute advise about IT band syndrome, I'm all ears

jgreybill 'I have had IT band issues since the end of August. I have been to PT for a month now-done ultrsound, Iontophersis, now I am doing electronic stim therapy-plus lots of stretching, foam rolling, icing, and Alleve. I haven't seen much improvement. I ran the 18 okay, had extremely difficulty on the 20 walking the last 2 miles. I was unable to do the 12 mile or the 8 the last two weeks. Have been keeping my runs at no more then 5 miles 2X/wk the last two weeks and hoping this decrease in mileage won't kill my endurance. I also started using a more supportive brace because with attempts on the 12 and 8, my knee felt like it was going to give out. I have completely given up my finish time goal and hope just to finish-I know there is no way I can keep up with my pace group. I am really nervous about Sunday. I also started doing core stretching and arm weights since I realized when I reach the hobbling point from the IT band problem, it really works every muscle in my body and I get really sore. The best thing I have done so far is the brace-I think it is my only hope. Icing using a styrofoam cup peeled back has been great too.' added 2nd Oct 2007
