New shoes, new job

Hey all. Went to the Sweatshop again last weekend and ended up buying some new running shoes! The feeling that you get when running in new shoes is amazing and ended up doing my fastest 4 mile training run, clocking in at 9:28 min/mi (that's fast for me!).
I did my 8 mile long run on sunday however and that brought me back to earth and realised that new shoes is NOT a miracle cure for shin splints. The pain wore off by the 4 mile marker though and I was able to finish in style with one heck of a negative split!
Started a new job today just for christmas. Standing up and walking around for 6 hours straight could play havoc with my training. Last thing on my list after getting home is going for a run! Has anyone got any suggestions on how to keep your training going whilst having to walk around 6 hrs during the day?*
* No early morning run suggestions, i dont do pre-8am - "Who's got out of the wrong side of the bed?" ME, EVERY MORNING!

Keith_L 'Be careful with the shins - if they really go its a long way back. Think you just need to look at a three runs a week program (look at FIRST on internet) and do what you can. As long a syou keep up basic fitness you will be fine to step it up come january' added 10th Nov 2009
