Morning all!!!

Running been bit non-existent recently due to the festive period, lots of entertaining on our part but had a bit of a panic attack/hissy fit and kicked it back off last week. Did just under 4 miles on Thursday & again on Saturday and have drawn up a bit of a routine & tweaked a few things from my training plan along the way to enable me to get my long runs in on the weekends hubby is away. This means this week I will be running 3 days consectively (including a run today) and then will do my long run Friday. I think I just needed to get it all straight in my head and have a bit of a 'plan'. I'm actually going to be able to make the charitys training run this month and am quite excited about that as it will be good to meet/run with others.
I do have a question though to all you experienced marathon runners out there, my training plan doesnt mention anything about speed interval/hill runs should I be doing these as an instructor at the gym says I should be doing them?! He did a session with me the other week and has booked me in for another session at the end of January too and was saying that I should be doing at least one a week. Would it help me if I included a speed interval session instead of just running?
Thanks x

Terrythemover 'You should do at least one session a week on speed, usually i combine this with a hill. Basically I jog to the hill, then do 30secs sprints up the hill, noting how far i get on the first one then i jog down hill for 1min 30secs, then sprint back up again and so on, always trying to make sure when i sprint up the hill i reach the same place each time, this means i have to work a bit harder each sprint. When i started this i started of at 8 reps and i am now on 15reps but will do no more just increase the 30secs to 35secs. Hope that makes sense. Also in terms of strength and speed i also do a progression run where i do 5 min warm up 10mins at marathon pace then 30mins at a faster pace with a 10min warm down, i do this once a week then 1 run gentle jog 45-50mins then my LSR on a sunday.' added 2nd Jan 2012
