The first run...

I am feeling quite proud of myself this morning. Last night was 'the first run'. Training has officially begun!
I did ok for the first few minutes (I was following a training programme on my iPhone)...but after the first few minutes, my heart was pounding and I could NOT breathe!! I think this is generally where I've got to before, and then given up and walked home. The only reason I kept going was because I've signed up for the 5k and refuse to waste the money.
But - I did it. That's what is improtant. I still can't see that I'm ever gonna love running (as various people keep telling me) but I am feeling determined and stubborn right now, to not let this defeat me! So tomorrow I'm back for the second run. Bring it on!!

hannah_mc 'Well done on your first run! I've signed up for the 5k and I had my first run last night too. I didn't attempt non-stop running yet, did alternating running and walking, which I think is the only reason I am still alive today! Definitely not getting that feeling that I'm going to ever love running either, but giving it a shot. Good luck with the next run!' added 13th Jul 2011

Tonypminter 'Well Done Claire! Getting started is the worst!!! I began running again three months ago after quite a long lay off. I can remember coming home after only going out the door what seemed a few minutes earlier feeling awful. Coughing, sweating, out of breath and feeling 'it was never as hard as this before was it'? Anyhow three months on and up to five miles on my longer runs I feel it was so worth it. I hope this will be your experience as well. I'm sure it will. Consistancy and good rest will get you fit and keep you fresh and un-injured. when is your 5k? Good luck and keep going, Well done! ' added 14th Jul 2011
