Stitch!

Sunday 'not so long run' 3.6 miles, 34:39, average pace 9:38
I was hoping for a 5 or 6 mile run this morning....maybe I'm still being too easy on myself since the GSR half 3 weeks ago!
It is a lovely sunny day in Glasgow today, but as soon as I stepped out the door I realised it was freezing...think was even bit of frost on the car!
I knew then that maybe I wasn't going to have a great run...
It was this time last year with the drop in temperature that I developed a bad cough and ended up with pneumonia in the winter.
My asthma appears to flare up during cold days and I wasn't particularly prepared for the cold in a wee t-shirt, so I pretty much immediately could feel my breathing get worse, but I plodded on...
Then I got a stitch again..I've been getting stitches almost every run over the past month, and I thought was related to downhills as always seemed to happen around then, but I deliberatly changed route today so no downhill and I still got a stitch after 15-20 min, so frustrated
that I cut short my run and headed home.
During my summer runs I never got a stitch! Now I always get it in same right hand side. I've read up on it previously and think they advise breathing out on opposite side to pain, so left...think I got it wrong way, maybe making it worse. Will maybe try that remedy next time again.
If anyone has any remedy suggestions for stitch I am prepared to give it a try?...I just know it's gonna happen again!
I also managed 3.1 miles (5k), 29:01,average pace 9:22 in the gym yesterday...and even though wasn't full on stitch I still had a wee niggle on my right side at about 15-20min into the run.
Happy Running!

dawnrob44 'Hi Claire, I never used to get stitches and got a horrendous one the first 10k run i did this year in May. Like you i read up and asked for advice. TRied the breathing technique (blow out on left step), but took a lot of concentration. I;ve also found that the stich sometimes just goes into my shoulders. So i think sometimes it's down to what i've eaten before I run as much as the elements. The breathing definitely helps me it focus me to slow down a little and concentrate. I stick to very light fuel before a run, plenty of fluids and walkie bits.' added 26th Sep 2010
