Weather calls off play

The problem with Wellington is the weather. It's not bad as such, and not inconsistent - they call it Windy Welly for a reason, that reason being the almost constant wind - but it can scupper any plans you have.
We were going to head out to Breaker Bay today, but the weather is being all weird. It's the kind of weather I'd run in, but not the weather I fancy a 5km walk in.
Which is a shame, because Breaker Bay is one of those parts of Wellington where you look southeast and it's next stop Antarctica - if you look at the map, it faces out and south into the Cook Straight, and the walk around Moa Point is lovely.
5km yesterday was good - 2km uphill, and no strain today in the lower extremities. That's the city-bound 5km loop, not the airport-bound loop, where it's 2.5km flat around the bays and then 2.5km up a very unforgiving incline back home.
I'm lining up for some competitions soon - a friend of mine assures me that Welly-based competitions are good, because runners from Christchurch and Auckland - flat places - find the undulations very hard going, whereas Wellington runners take hills in their stride.
