Last pre-race long run

Nov1620083:29 a.m.

Did a rather creaky 8-miler today in cool, blustery conditions. It wasn't an easy day to run but got my miles in at an average 10:22 pace. That was roughly my long-run pace all summer and fall before I managed a 10:06 pace at Mohawk-Hudson. That feat felt pretty remarkable -- a lot of runners aim to run faster in races than in training, but from what I've seen many fall short for various reasons. For Philly, though, I'm not confident of doing anything similar. My training for MH closely followed my plan, I barely missed a run, I ate better in the leadup to the race, I was disciplined and a few pounds lighter. Going into Philly things doing feel as smooth but I just want to have a good time and not get injured.

  • Raring_to_go 'Hiya, wondered what you were doing up at 3:29 am, then deduced that you were in America - doh! Your training looks to be going really well. Good luck now with the taper, and the race - sounds very exciting. Your long run pace looks similar to mine (though you're a lot faster in marathons than I was at my first one 3 weeks ago in Dublin!).' added 16th Nov 2008
