Overview

Another change due for the overview, I think...

I seem to be over my spells of actual injuries (touching every bit of wood within reach), and just generally getting by with day to day aches and pains, especially in the knees. These are just everyday wear and tear and seem to have slowed me by about a minute a mile since my hay-day, so I can live with that!

Once I'm out and warmed up I can still hit that sweet spot and get in the zone -

My abiding mantra is         'Just glad to be running...'

I'm inspired and guided by my running-club mates, and by you lot on Realbuzz - you know who you are, and many thanks!

I still think my days of running sub 3hr marathons are gone (BUT-  never say never!)

Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift, that's why we call it the present.

Cheers, MTS

'ot 'n' yumid...

...everyone seems to be including weather reports for their runs, so, me too...

I didn't run last Sunday because me and Mrs.MTS went to a T'ai Chi Workshop in Newcastle in the morning, then we went to Bede's World and St Paul's church in Jarrow (in blazing sunshine) in the afternoon. A fabulous day out.

Tuesday I went for a run about 4:30 and this was the 'ot n yumid of the title. I went up thru the parks, thru the woods to Herrington park - actualy saw a live hedgehog scuttle accross the path in the woods - then over Penshaw hill, thru those woods and back along the raily to South Hylton, up to the Echo offices and Grindon and back down thru the parks. The whole run was sticky, clammy and tiring, but I did 1:30 to make up for no run on Sunday.

Thursday, and I ran back from Houghton, but for a change Mrs.MTS dropped me off at the top of the Copt Hill (then went for a meal with Friend1) and I came back over the top of Warden Law, down the cycle trail, then thru Burdon Village (the land that time forgot), down into Ryhope and up the raily to the Holymere and home. A nice 62mins on a 'dry' hot, sunny, evening - so much more comfortable conditions than Tuesday.

Friday I ran back from Seaham, and while Seaham was cool (that's cool, weather not cool, trendy) it began to get a bit sticky as I got back into Sunderland. I did feel like I was pushing myself that night and putting lots of effort into the run. My knees ached afterwards but were ok today.

Mrs.MTS and I went to another T'ai Chi workshop this morning then went onto Tynemouth for the afternoon. We had a pub lunch, then a lovely stroll round the Castle and Priory (free on our English Heritage cards) including a kip on the grass,  then had a long walk along the beach to Cullercoats and Whitley Bay where we found a quiet corner and did loads of T'ai Chi on the firm sand at the water's edge. By then the sun was blazing down but there was a cooling breeze too.

Got my new camera this week - Woo-Hoo - so been trying it out. Seems ok but  I'm still getting used to the various settings etc. and waiting for the additional memory card to arrive (ordered seperately). TISM - it is a FujiFinepix J20, which I finally plumped for after going dizzy reading reviews/comparisons on tinternet. I'd just about reached the point of not being able to choose anything.

These are some of today's efforts. This is a view south from Tynemouth Priory. It was a bit overcast then, but the clifftops dead centre are The Leas, where the Great North Run finishes.

This was a view north to Whitley Bay. We did our T'ai Chi at the far right hand end of this beach.

This is a view over the cliffs into Cullercoats bay. The sea was crystal clear.

and this is a close up of a thistle and some lichen on the priory wall.

Can't wait to take more pics!!

Finally - 5 points if you can tell me the title of the song with the line 'from Cullercoats and Whitley Bay' in it. 10 points if you know the next line, and 100 bonus points if you don't Google to get the answer!

Cheers, MTS

Fine pix there, MTS - good choice of camera!! Stayed at Whitley Bay last year, before the little toddle down to the Leas, and our little photocall along the way.
That was some great running this week....!!
Absolutely no idea about the song, and not going to spoil it by googling it either....
