I'm Still Alive

I ran my PB today, in the blazing sun. I have now decided the sun is EVIL!!
The race itself wasnt too bad, the 29oC heat on the other hand was an issue. I wanted to give up at 8k because of the heat, but the thought of a medal and my husbands proud smile kept me going. The 5k and 7k water points were a godsend (and so too the local resident with the sprinkler.. he was a legend).
I have learnt a great lesson from this experience.. If the sun is out, take water. I usually run without, as I find I get carried away and end up with stitch. Today my mouth was dry, my lips were dry, my skin was dry and I'm pretty sure my insides dried out too.

I finished the race in approximatly 60 minutes and 3 seconds. I will know the official time later on when they upload them to the website.

I do find it useful for rinsing my mouth to freshen it after gasping for air for a while, or to cool my hands which get very hot. I also find the sloshing of it in the bottle helps me keep a good rhythm, although I'm not sure how helpful the runners around me find it!' added 2nd Oct 2011

Johnf 'Well run, think we all remember our first races. You'll soon get used to what and when to drink on various race distances.' added 3rd Oct 2011
