Chicago Marathon Blues

Oct0320098:51 p.m.

The Chicago marathon is one week from tomorrow.  I wish I were writing this blog from my happy place but I'm far, far from it right now.

The toe is STILL hurting me.  I know it's only been 7 days since I broke it, but I was hoping I could at least wear a shoe by now.  Maybe in 7 more days I'll be able to don my Asics and hobble through 26.2 miles in sheer agony, but I just don't see that happening.  I suppose I could ansthetize it (my toe) before the race, but there's this whole mental thing of running knowing that my little toe is not firmly anchored to the rest of my foot - and that makes my stomach turn!  Running 26.2 is difficult enough, even when feeling great, and I just can't imagine doing it with a broken toe.

I will keep the faith for now, hoping and praying that my toe will miraculously feel better in the next 7 days and I'll be able to run Chi...but it is God's will, not mine, that will be done and I'll have to accept that.  I just don't yet understand why...

  • Alaistair 'Tammy, so sorry to read your woes about the toe...bad luck mate...please don't try and run if your not up to the job! there is always next year? You ask why? Perhaps sometimes the challenge is quite simply to set example by doing the right thing - don't race? BW A' added 4th Oct 2009
