Toe-tally Crazy

Oct0720095:06 p.m.

My toe and I are both doing a little better now.  It's been 11 days since I broke it and I am happy to say that I am finally able to wear two matching shoes.  (It may not seem like much, but I was SO ready to get rid of that "boot"!)  I have been keeping it "buddy-taped" to my other toe (see pho-toe below), icing it, and sometimes taking the Darvocet (don't like the light-headedness and stomach upset it causes).  The the swelling has gone down and the bruises are disappearing, too.  It still hurts, but it's getting better each day.

After much prayer and deliberation, I have decided that I'm going to run in Chicago.  It's a cRaZY idea but I feel like it's something I am positively driven to do.  This is just another obstacle in my training and I will get through it.  Maybe I'll only make it one mile, or maybe I'll make it to the finish line.  Whatever the outcome I know that I will have given it my best shot.

I have a follow-up appointment with my ortho doctor tomorrow.  We're going to discuss the logistics of numbing my toe before the race, taping to avoid blisters, etc.

  • jrarment 'Well Sis, I hope you weren't TOO medicated when you made this decision! But it seems like you have the exact mindset needed for that lies ahead (as IF I know what sort of mindset is needed to run 26.flippin'2 miles). Go get 'em!' added 8th Oct 2009
