#10 Finally cracked the 2 mile mark!
Nov0220118:22 p.m.
Second run this week and I've finally cracked the 2 mile mark! Ran it in 23 mins without stopping!! Feeling very chuffed, finally felt good and as if I'm getting somewhere. Still struggled on the incline, bit wheezy, but nothing my inhaler couldn't handle.

According to my training plan, I should be attempting a 3 mile run at the weekend. I'm a bit nervous that this will be pushing it too far. Should I just accept that I'm a week behind in my training, due to the bad week I had last week, and wait until next weekend to attempt the 3 miler? Or just go for it?

claireenee 'Well done! Its amazing when you can see yourself progressing isnt it! I remember when I first started running and was so chuffed when I could run to the end of the road without my lungs feeling like they were on fire! With regard to the 3miler at the weekend, I think its up to you and how you feel as it is early days with the training and you wouldnt want to push yourself & get injured. I'm going to be following Hal Higdon training & this doesn't start til mid December!' added 2nd Nov 2011

BothXP 'Really well done. Don't worry about deviating from your training plans if you do feel a little behind. It's far better to take a bit longer to build up and we've still got plenty of time until next April.' added 2nd Nov 2011

claireconnolly 'Well done!! It's really satisfying when you can run for longer isn't it?! I agree that you should do whatever you feel happy with at the weekend. Why not try a 2.5 mile run and keep going to 3 if you feel up to it at the time? Good luck!! Cx' added 2nd Nov 2011

annabanana1972 'Excellent, right there with you. Sounds as though you're about where I am on the training, maybe a week behind, but it's so much fun when you can keep going for a good distance, you really feel as though you're getting there. Like you, I had only achieved 2 miles and thought i'd done a 3 mile run, when in actual fact got my distances wrong and only ran just over 2. I was very worried about my first 3 mile run, but decided to go for it and did the distance in the car. mapped out a route that took me down a very straight and level road, knew where I needed to run to, to do 3 miles, but set off thinking if I can't get that far, i'll just turn round earlier. I could see my destination point and decided to go for it and then when I turned for home, it didn't seem to take that long before I was in sight of the final stretch. If you've managed 2 miles, I'm sure you'll be o.k on the 3, just take it really slowly and you'll probably find you'll be just fine and very, very pleased with yourself.' added 3rd Nov 2011

philk 'Annabanana 's idea is good. If you go somewhere the retrun journey never seems as far so go for a 1 1/2 mile jog out then turn round and go back the way you came. If you have to walk then that's no problem, walking is good and it help that you get the distance covered and the time on your feet, that is where the stamina builds from. I know it feels kinda slow right now but you are giving it a good go, one day you will suddenly realise that you are doing a 5 mile run non stop and will wonder 'When did I ever progress this far?'. Then it will be 8 miles, then 10 then a half marathon and you will look back and not have a clue how you got that far, but you have done. Stick to your training plan BUT if you do feel that you need to repeat a week you can, none of them are set in stone so adapt it if you feel you need to. It doesn't matter, all that doe s matter is finishing on the day.' added 3rd Nov 2011
