Dogs and me - again!

Mar1020128:51 p.m.

Having run 19.5 miles last weekend I was looking forward to a rather short long run (12 miles), especially as I had not been feeling great all week. I managed to crawl out of bed at 6am, had breakfast in relative peace despite all 3 kids joining me and then set off quite happily at 7am. Even the sun made an appearance. So far so good. I took it quite easy, going  a bit slower than usual. By the time I met up with my friend I already knew that things were not going to be too fantastic today as I already felt washed out after just 3 miles. We went on our usual loop that includes 3 miles of coastal path and I think I must have forgotten to lift my legs properly as I fell over a stone and landed flat on my face in some heather. My right hand came down hard on a sharp stone and it seems to have scraped quite a bit of skin off in a couple of places. My friend looked at it, pulled a face and then said brightly " at least nothing happened to your legs...". I suppose that was rather lucky! And it was heather and not Gorse like last time I fell! I picked myself up and continued with my throbbing and bleeding hand only to encounter a dog just a few minutes later. Now I know that I have had a rant about dogs and their owners before, but I am getting really fed up. This dog came running up to us and my friend and I both stopped. The dog's owner told us not to worry as it was only a young dog. It sniffed my friend, walked over to me and jumped straight up to nip me just below my hip! What is wrong with these animals? I wasn't even running this time! No serious injury, it didn't break my skin but it hurt quite a bit for about half an hour afterwards. And yet again, not the slightest sign of an apology from the owner! I didn't stop for an argument this time as it seemed pretty pointless and I think I just couldn't believe that a dog had got me yet again....
