How Long?
Jul06201212:14 p.m.
I see Realbuzz doesn't change, I can still spend 20 minutes writing a blog update and then it loses it when I hit publish!!
Lets try again, in a slightly shorter version.....
Ran a Reindeer Dash race in early December at Bramham Park near Harrogate, very hilly, very muddy, very fun, very slow (under and hour, but not by a lot).
Got seriously injured 3 days before Christmas, no running until April (plantar fasciitis - 2 weeks on crutches).
Since April I have been averaging about 15 miles a week over about 5 runs, but I do feel the foot occasionally, and after so long out, my fitness and weight levels had seriously gone to pot, so even a mile was a struggle at first. But I am not at a stage where 4 miles feels ok, and doesn't kill me. Did I really used to do 20 mile training runs for fun?
This year has been tough at work and various other roles I undertake, and I have never missed exercise like I have missed it this year. It keeps me sane, it lets me collect my thoughts after initially clearing my head, and never again will I take it for granted. I still feel the injured foot occasionally, hence not ramping anything up further just yet, but it is starting to be a rarer occurence when I do feel it, so I am starting to consider plans moving forward.
There, a 7 month update in a quarter of the time it took to write last time..... If it works, I'll fill in some gaps next time....
Happy Trails.......

Suziewee 'Well tut, tut look how long its been since your last post ... I would never leave it that long ...er actually the less said about that the better!! I'm sorry to hear you've a rough time of it since Christmas, and as I am the least patient person when injured I can understand your total frustration. It sounds like you are doing the right thing in taking it easy. Best of luck and keep us posted on your progress. Right, off to update my blog ....' added 6th Jul 2012

Firefly123 'Welcome back to RB, Glen. I didn't realize that they still had a VLM thread - I think I'm in general now. Anyway, good to hear that you're returning to running and I promise we'll do a very easy run when you're down for the Olympics.' added 6th Jul 2012

simonedumergue 'Well hello stranger! I couldn't agree more about the running being the thing that keeps us sane at the times that we really need it. I share your injury pain - after being marathon fit in April, all my runs these days are around the 5/6 mile mark at most - sad how quickly that level of fitness becomes a ghost of the past - but then again it doesn't take long to get it back if you really need to. Hang in there and just keep listening to your body! x' added 7th Jul 2012
