Let's share the post-marathon blues......
Apr2820105:10 p.m.
Hi again fellow bloggers! Anyone else suffering from a bout of the post-marathon blues?
After the extreme highs of Sunday I'm finding it hard to know what to do with myself this week. I still have the aches and pains to prove that I ran a marathon but apart from that it feels like a real anti-climax. Everything had been gearing up to 25th April for so many months and now its like, BANG, back to earth with a heavy bump and sore legs! My friends and family have been absolutely fantastic support, but I know they're all a bit sick of the marathon talk now, so got to find myself something new to focus on I think.
Watched all the BBC coverage (yes ALL of it), which I had recorded on Sky+, and must admit I was rather disappointed with the lack of coverage of little old me, (must remember to write to Points of View about that, tee hee), but I guess it was wishful thinking to see myself on TV, out of a field of 37000 runners! Was weird to watch it on TV actually, because I think I must've run along in my own little bubble the whole time, on TV it looked quite grey and wet for most of the event, but I remember it being sunny most of the time (am I wrong about that?) and I can't remember hardly any of the sights of London, think I must run with my eyes down too much. So I already have some regrets as i think I should've maybe tried to engage with the surroundings a bit more, but I was just SO focussed on my time target that everything else went out of my head. Never mind.
Anyway, what do do next then? Can't see myself doing another marathon, but must admit I'm surprised how quickly you do forget about the pain and how hard it was, I've forgotten already. Quads still very tight and stairs are still a challenge, but am slowly returning to normal I think. Might even try a little run this weekend.
I guess I HAVE to get myself entered for something else, otherwise I just won't put the trainers on ever again. Maybe another Half marathon in the autumn?
How is everyone else feeling? and anyone got any suggestions for a new goal/challenge?
Well done again everyone and hope you're all feeling a bit more cheery than me.
Tina x

ClareVR 'I know what you mean - luckily I have work coming out of my ears to take my mind off it! My quads are the only thing left still hurting, not too bad today though and thinking of going for a little jaunt later...maybe. I am going to look for a half or two to do I think. I have a 10k in a month for which I would like to clock a decent time for a change, but then definitely a half I reckon. ' added 28th Apr 2010

simonedumergue 'Your blog really sums up everything I am feeling at the moment! Totally relate to everything you have said. I haven't blogged again because I am trying to get my head straight first and get out of my post marathon funk that I am in!! Also trying to find a new race or goal to aim for to feel some new focus. Like you, quads still sore and stairs still painful, but coming right slowly!' added 28th Apr 2010

Jenny1961 'The london marathon experience is so overwhelming that its almost inevitable that you'll crash land on planet earth afterwards so don't worry! I have said this on another blog but the runnersworld website Events tab lists loads of events - 5K, 5 mile, 10k, half marathons, marathons, ultra marathons and also triathlon events! This is the perfect time to focus on shorter races. After all, you have all that fitness! Believe me ( and I'm talking from experience) you will get to enjoy the shorter races just as much. There won't be so much angst and emotion but each event is a new target in itself and you will get just as much satisfaction at achieving them- and trying to improve your times. I too have watched every single bit of the tv coverage and of course looked out for me! :). Bah humbug- no sight of me! Good luck! And keep blogging! :0 ' added 28th Apr 2010

smalltowngirl 'Amazingly my nephew-in-law spotted me overtaking the giraffe (got record for the tallest costume)at around 17miles in the highlights. Good time to be caught on camera since almost everyone else around me was walking and I was overtaking everyone! Luckily the cameras didn't catch me later when I was a tad slower!' added 28th Apr 2010

I'v got a 10k race at the end of May so that's my next focus and then couple of HM's in Sept. But I'm hoping I'll feel a bit better by next week. I hope you do too.' added 28th Apr 2010

Suziewee 'I think some post marathon blues are inevitable after the months of training, the build up and then the event. I have still been on a high, but have come down today after trying to focus on housework for a day which has been getting out of control!! Now I don't ache I don't have any excuse about not wielding the hoover and duster about - but its not good for the mood! New targets are what we all need. I am definitely going to do some 10k's and hopefully I will find a half marathon somewhere or some cross county events. Hope you cheer up soon, its been great following your progress xx' added 29th Apr 2010
