22/2/12 Cankle I defy you

Feb2220129:43 p.m.

4.93m : 55 mins

So I have been fretting about my silly ankle injury the last couple of days. I have been following RICE religiously as I have been TERRIFIED of getting injured pre-marathon.

I have taken this so seriously that at times I have been teaching with my foot up on a chair with an ice pack and swivelling around on my chair to talk to pupils. I got myself in such a stress today as a deputy head had to walk in during my 10 min video clip I was showing my class as a reward for completing their timed assessment- foot on chair so I must have looked like a lazy cow! I then got in a panic as I would hate for anyone to think this so sent a rambling email to explain the situation .... have had no reply :( Surprisingly though pupils have been extremely sympathetic and my tutor group who ask me constantly about my training, after laughing at my comical tumble, have been very concerned.

I was determined that I would go ahead with my planned run tonight with Trudy and Stu. My friend Stu has only just returned from sea so it was lovely to have him out with us and back on dry land. I really thought tonight would be a struggle as my ankle has niggled walking around school. However I felt sooooo good! No pain! It seems that ice pack and raising to keep the swelling down has been a success (plus all my ibruprofen and co-codamol!). Also it was a really good run- I felt bouncy and spritely!

It is the side to side action that hurts rather than the running forward so hopefully I will be ok. I have booked a physio appt to be on the safe side so I will hopefully get some advice/tips tomorrow night to keep strengthening and protecting it from happening again.

So I am going to bed relieved! Fingers crossed it stays this way. Following my run it is slightly swollen but only a little sore so things should be ok for the 15 mile race on saturday with Trudy. Bring it on!!!!!!!!!!

I have attached a picture of my cankle- I am very impressed with how all my icing and raising has kept this to a minimum- it just makes me look slightly tubby!
