  • I did it - BUPA LONDON 10k!!

    Jun1020111:48 p.m.

I took part in the Bupa London 10k run On Monday the 30th May. After all the bad luck I had leading up to it I am surprised I managed to do it!!

Since signing up to the run at the beginning of the year I have had nothing but trouble, with Viral infections and then the dreaded "BuggyGate" incident (if you dont know I managed to damage my right knee and badly bruise my left knee after falling over the top of my daughters buggy)Blog Uploads image

So with all that trainning didnt really ever get started. 1 week before the run (and once my knee started feeling better) I started working out at the gym to try and get back in shape but 4 days before the run I had a twinge in my knee so had to stop.

I woke up Monday morning feeling terrified that there was no-way I was gonna make 10k, I was extreamly nervous. Hubby had his cousin staying round and the girls woke us up really early so hubby, his cousin and the girls played in the lounge while I got myself ready. I jumped in the shower and after a couple of minutes I realised the water wasnt running away so shouted for my hubby who then realised there was a blockage in the pipes and him and his cousin spent the next 2 hours trying to clear the pipes out.

So bang went my nice relaxing morning!! Once the had got the water running again I cooked them both breakfast and then we made a move up to London. Hubby drove us there which wasnt an issue but we got caught up in all the road closures for the event so took longer than we thought. We finally got parked and started walking to St Jame's park.

I was supposed to be meeting a lady from the charity to get my running vest but When we got there everyone was queued up ready to run. So I literally stripped of my tracksuit bottoms and climbed over the fence to get into my group.

As you can imagine I was not in the right frame of mind at all, and walking to the start line I kept questioning wether I was doing the right thing. In all honestly I could have turned round and walked back quite easily at that point.

As I crossed the start line I put my music on and started to run and shocked myself that I didnt stop until I got to the finish! I found a comfortable pace and stuck to it. At a few points I slowed down to take on water as it was really warm weather and I didnt want to dehydrate. At 3k they had a water station and even though I had my swiggies on I still grabbed a bottle and took a couple of sips.

Further round the course (at 2 points) they had these water hoses sraying out cold water, they were amazing and a welcome relief!

I did keep my head down most of the run but was hoping to see my hubby and kids in the crowd and was wondering if I had missed them at any points. But as I rounded the corner at about 9k my husband shouted and I turned round and I couldnt stop the tears welling up! I was so pleased to see him and my little girls were shouting "run mummy run"

That was the final push I needed, I slowed down and took on some more water and then ran the final 1k the crowds really spured us on.

I felt elated when I crossed that finish line and was hoping hubby had got round to see me finish.

I crossed the finish line in 1 hour 12 minutes. And as I walked up to get my medal I started to chatting to a really lovely lady and we ended up getting some photo's taken of us!

I called hubby and said I was waiting for him, he was really upset as he was waiting by the finish line ready to see me cross (I had beaten him round!)

We were going to go for a a trip to the national history museum but after walking about 2 miles we found a pub had some food and then made our way back to the car. The kids were shattered, I was shattered and hubby and his cousin looked pretty shattered!

My legs killed me but I was so pleased that I managed the run.

Looking forward to my next challange.... whatever that may be!!!! :)

A HUGE thanks to everyone that texted, tweeted, facebooked and sponsored me. Your support meant a lot

    xx
