Well it really was a winter wonderland this morning.  Having already run 4 times this week (although 3 of those have had walking bits as Kevin is working up to 3 mile runs) and been to 3 classes I decided to just see how things went this morning.  Alfie was very excited to get out as he loves snow and running, and I thought we might just manage about 20 mins very slow.

Walked carefully through the village as the pavements are pretty dicey.  But as soon as we got onto rough ground it was really ok.  It's a mile and a half downhill to the sea wall so that is our out and back three miler.  I thought we might have a look over the sea wall and then run back.  Once we got onto the sea wall path it seemed fine, though.  So I decided to do the 4.8 mile round trip again.  Of course it was a bit chilly as you are very exposed, estuary one side and fields the other, and the path is raised.  There were big chunks of grey ice floating in the sea as well as a couple of inches of snow on the ground

I could see that one person and a dog had already walked the route and there were lots of bird footprints.  Also an awful lot of geese making a lot of noise - I supposed they were cold!

Anyway, it went really well, the running was easy and we both enjoyed it.  We had to stop to get balled up snow out of Alfie's paw at one point but otherwise it was smooth going.  A little bit more tiring on the legs than usual because of the conditions underfoot.  I was amazed to get in at 57:34, faster than last week which was muddy as opposed to today's snowy!

This has given me a boost, especially as it was really quite easy.  The move up to longer distances doesn't seem as daunting as it did.  The one thing is to work on speed a little.  On Thursday I am hopefully going for a run at the gym with Vicki, the trainer (and diet guru who helped me lose 10lbs in 5 weeks) and another lady.  They are faster runners than me which is very good for me as it stretches me a bit.  My usual attitude is to make sure I can keep running so I am not very good at pushing myself speed-wise.

Oh yes there is that little matter of next weekend being different from usual, so there won't be any cardio kick class on Saturday morning....  I will get out for runs anyway, and be glad when  things are back to normal!  Hope everyone has a very Happy Christmas xxx
