Ever so slightly less early days

May1820099:45 p.m.

Three runs since my last post. Last Tuesday, Thursday and this evening (Monday). The first was good except that at the very start of my last lap a wee bug flew straight into my eye and proceeded to adventure around the back of it somewhere, which took a couple of minutes to deal with and slowed me down to a walk. On a side note, the bug was retrieved later at home but alas did not survive. That run was 4 miles and although I was tired the aches and pains on the run weren't too bad.

Thursday evening I was in a bit of a rush and didn't warm up quite as well as I should've, and then went off at a pace a little faster than was comfortable, doing a little under three miles in 25 minutes, winding up with quite bad shin splints. Not so much fun.

Eurovision drinking parties put the idea of a run this weekend right out the window, but dancing and drunken wanderings meant I did at least get some exercise. Then tonight I set off with the aim of doing 4 miles in 40 minutes again, which I did with plenty left in the tank. I could easily have carried on for another mile at least, or picked up the pace, but sensibly decided to stick to my original plan. Not tired at the end and neither my calves or the dreaded shoulder gave me much to worry about. Hooray. Will do the same tomorrow.

  • claireenee 'Well done for entering the VLM! I did 1st year and it was amazing. Its going to be long drag to October when we all find out if we've got places, so take it steady, my two main pieces of advice would be to visit a running shop to get yourself kitted out in a pair of proper running shoes and also to join a running club if you can. Their support and experience really helped me. Also, you could enter couple of 5k/10k races as that'll give you something to aim for/keep you motivated in the months leading up to October. Good luck x' added 18th May 2009
