Confused

I really don't know how well my training is going. I've been talking to too many runners who are doing such a variety of different levels of trainng. Some doing more miles, some doing faster times, some seeking out hills. I thought it wasn't going too badly, but now I'm not so sure.
I suppoe the important thing is not to worry about it and just try to enjoy this unseasonably warm weather. Today's main aim was to start off the long run slower and stay slow until at least half-way. I failed miserably and finished very tired and slow, after a very brisk first 14 miles or so. I'll try again next week. I know from bitter experience the benefit of running negative splits in the marathon. If you can run the first half at a steady pace a little slower than you run the second half, your overall performance is much better and you feel better afterwards. This is to be recommended. On the other hand it is not easy to do without practice, and it needs self-restraint.
The other thing I must do is get out more often during the week and run shorter and faster. Again I know this makes me feel good about running. I need to make sure I warm up and cool down properly though. I'm not a gym person, but I wlll try and keep up daily sit-ups, just to work on those core muscles. This post seems like a set of resolutions.
I'm off for a hot bath and a plate of porridge.
