Sunday morning sunshine

Feb1720084:03 p.m.

It was a bit too bright this morning, so I had to wear my cap. Then my head got too hot so I had to alternate between carrying it (running away from the sun) and wearing it (to avoid the sun in my eyes). Some of us always find something to complain about. As it was a lot colder this morning I wore my running jacket, expecting to regret this as the day wore on. In fact it got colder so I was very grateful for every bit of clothing I had on, and kept the gloves on right round the course.

Other than the sun it was a very pleasant run. In the absence of many of the regulars (at the Brighton half)  I ran the first 9 miles at a slightly slower pace than last week, and reaped the benefit at the end and afterwards as I felt a lot better. My colleague with GPS called it 17.3 miles, but I measured it subsequently at 17.6 miles. As you get as many different distances for a run as there are people with GPS I tend to treat their confident assertions of distance with a pinch of salt.

I'm finding a need to eat more these days, and am trying to make sure that at least some of it is healthy. I doubt if caramel logs count as that. I have just rediscovered this treat, remembered from my distant childhood.  I had a very nice venison casserole last night, courtesy of Tescos half price offer. I used sweet potato to sweeten the sauce. It didn't taste as different from beef as I'd expected, which was a good thing. I find I do need to treat myself to nice food and drink from time to time, in order to keep up morale. Thank goodness for manned water stops supplied with jelly babies.
