Overview

God has given me another year to run!  Last year I only was able to run the last half of Chicago since I was in the middle of chemotherapy.  I was honored to jump in and run with my friend Staci and we finished together--she qualified for Boston!

My ONLY goal for Chicago is to complete the entire race this year.  I celebrated one year of survival on August 15th--I have stage 4 stomach cancer.  Every day God gives me I am grateful for!  I am a living miracle!

Please check out my blog that takes you through my last year's journey with stomach cancer!  www.beccascancer.blogspot.com

Just wanted to say say see ya later.  Maybe we'll all talk next year?  Sitting here drinking my rather tasty Magnesium Citrate prep and chasing it with chicken broth.  Not a bad combo, really.  I'm almost halfway done with it.

Tomorrow we'll see if my stomach will be removed.  I hope so, I'd like to say so long to that cancer!  Thank you for your kindness and prayers.  My folks and friends will post some comments on my blog about how surgery went.  Feel free to check it out at www.beccascancer.blogspot.com

Love,

Becca

I completely changed my focus at mile 5 on Sunday.  My goal was clear---to complete this race.  I am blessed that I had enough people supporting and encouraging me along the way.  I felt that my finisher's medal was really a "Survivor's Medal".  I think I worked harder during that marathon than I did the 18 or so hours I spent in hard labor while birthing my daughter (THEN  I had to have a c-section--see the similarity  with the race being called off!)  All that work for nothing?  NO, all that work and I am still around to enjoy the rewards!

How did you all do?  What I mean by that, is how did you manage the heat?  Today's marathon was more of a pass or fail...did you end up making it through the course without medical attention?  I feel so horrible for the man who died.  My folks were at the finish line and saw a man laying along the road...there were police officers near by, but they didn't check on him.  I guess my folks and a friend lifted his glasses and he was completely passed out.  It took over 20 minutes before they could get anyone to help him!

It was touch and go along the way.  I started getting chills at mile 4 and then had to jog walk from mile 5 on out.  It was tough walking the final 6 miles after they cancelled the race.  Water stops were running out of cups and fluids.  It wasn't pretty.  I just wish they would have started the race 2 hours earlier.  They could have alerted all the hotels, made TV announcements, etc!

Tomorrow is a new day, keep drinking fluids and make sure you call your health care provider if you're not perking up or having any chest pain!  Actually, call 911 for chest pain.

I'm feeling pretty good about tomorrow, except for the headaches I have had every day.

We had a nice dinner last night at the Hilton for the ACS Charity Runner banquet.   The program and food were wonderful!

Good luck to you all and me we cross the finish line gracefull!

I woke up with out body aches or a headache!  I'm relieved.  My stomach is still a little queezy, but I can just take metamucil for that.  I will make sure I bring my miniature medicine cabinet with me this afternoon when we head to Chicago.

Maybe we'll see some familiar faces at the ACS dinner tonight at the Hilton?

These are my running girl friends. My friend Staci (left front)  had our families all out for a cookout last weekend (it was actually her birthday), but she surprised us wth this cake!  (I'm holding the cake, and Melissa is on my left.  In the back is Stephanie, Kelly, Beth, and Lisa).  Lisa, Kelly, and Staci will all be in Chicago this weekend!  Staci will be running with me. (My hubby is so excited to get to share a hotel room with all these girls!!--poor guy!)

The other picture is of our office.  Two of my friends/coworkers shaved their heads bald when my hair fell out--their hair grew a lot faster than mine.  The photo was from this past winter.

I'm feeling  alittle better today.  Still have a bad headache and the body aches, but I can eat.

Thank you for your kind words.

I think the shots may be kicking in!  I felt very nauseated tonight when I was running and have had a killer headache and body aches tonight!  Yikes.  I'm also having a local reaction to one of the 5 immunizations...I have red, hot, welts on my left deltoid.  I hope it's all just from the shots.  I ended up getting another shot yesterday too my tetanus diptheria and pertussis booster!  I sure hope the surgeon takes out my stomach, otherwise, this will all be done in vain!

I was going to take the kids in to the Fort Wayne Zoo tomorrow, but I think it would be wiser to stay close to home and rest up.  I'm on High Alert! I ran the 4 miles tonight nice and easy.  My first mile was a little fast--8:00, then I ended up averaging 8:45 for the entire 4.

I hope no one else out there gets sick before the marathon!

Wow, my arms are sore this morning.  I think 4 immunizations was a bit much for me.  I sure hope I don't get the flu symptoms this weekend!  I definitely do not recommend doing something so crazy as getting your flu or pneumococcal vaccinations just a few days before a marathon!  I'm at the point that I must just go with the flow--I do what the docs say--for the most part

What a week!  Mother nature struck me yesterday too!  When it rains it pours.  The good news is the worse should be over by Sunday!  I was not looking forward to carrying a tampon in that pocket on the outside of my shorts. People would wonder if that crazy girl would actually have to use it during the run! (only in the privacy of a port o pot!)

I'm enjoying reading all the blogs on here.  I don't always post, but I appreciate reading the ups and downs of the training--and in the lives of each of you.  You are great therapy for me.  2 more training runs before Sunday!
