Years of refusal...

A couple of Fridays ago I passed an exam I'd been working hard for; won a camera in a competition I had forgotten I'd entered; and got a job interview for a job I wanted to do but thought I'd missed out on. I felt very lucky although I still believe that the harder I work, the luckier I am.
So this week was a big week. I decided to get my cartilage repair done before my final working day. There was also the matter of the interview with preparations spanning last weekend and producing a superb presentation, allowing confidence to flow over the top of the glass. So everything planned, everything set. Remember Prior Planning and Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance. What you can't prepare for is the unexpected, you know the things that are outside of your control. Prior to the operation, three letters were received with dates for the operation. The date and time changed three times with two of the letters changing the date on the same day. With preparation in mind the date was confirmed and all was set.
On Wednesday it was an early start preparing for the interview. Everything planned, with everything timed to happen at the right time. At 12:30, the suit was laid out and the shirt was ready. Then a phone call, it was the hospital asking where the patient was despite the fact the date was confirmed for Thursday. I read the letter to them but they would not have it. So a split decision was required. Go to interview knowing that I'd have to wait several weeks for another operation date and then having to take time off if I got the job. Have the operation and rearrange the interview.
The later was the only option for me but I still had to convince them to let me back on the list. Luckily breakfast had been early and because my preparations had been intense, there had been no coffee breaks. “Get here ASAP”, they said so I did. Forget preparation, some things work better when you don't think too much about it. A quick phone call to explain why I couldn't make the interview and everything was sorted.
In at 13:00, prepared for an hour, in and out by 17:45. All done, all repaired. My Love gave me that look after, she was convinced I had sneaked a snack and would die.
Interview rearranged for next week and a couple of days on the sofa watching bad TV, good DVD's, using Twitter and Facebook.
Everything feels better than the last time. I am more mobile and I can put my weight on it. It's not as messy and it feels really good. On a positive note, it is all ahead of schedule and having it done a day early wasn't so bad. I'm going to give the interview my best shot as they were amazing to me.
The key thing is not to rush back too quick. I missed ParkRun this morning but there will be more. I have a goal, 100 miles on a bike in September so easy does it until then although I'm going to rely on hard work rather than luck.
