last long run done.

Today saw me do my last 15 mile run before the Ironman. Today seemed pretty tough, as if in, I couldn’t have gone faster even if I wanted too. 10 minute/miles was my limit today. I must have too many miles in my legs still from the weekend after the 93mile cycle / 5 mile run brick session. Still, it was a great run and another confidence builder. I did it on road for the first time and actually didn’t miss the lumps and bumps of my good old “iron-fields”. I had to get up at 0530 to do it, but I am sat at work now trying not to fall asleep at my p.c. Oh, to have a physical job again. Sometimes I really miss it you know. Cant believe I am a desk jockey now. It’s weird. Anyway, back to the run,. I took my camel bak with me, 3 gels and 3 small bits of flapjack. I had 1 of each every 3.5 miles and it worked perfectly. My quads and calves have a dull ache in them as I sit here, but I have a lovely lake swim planned for tonight as a good way to stretch out. Overall training has been going fine, and I have managed to push the doubt gremlins out of mind so far. I wonder if they will creep in when I start to taper in 10 days time? The way I see it is, if I haven’t done enough training to get round, then I was never meant to do an ironman, it means it’s just too much discipline for me, but I do think I have done enough to scrape by and that’s all I wanted. I just wanna get there and soak it all in and get this race started now. I wish I could get 2 ironman tattoos. One on my neck (for normal people to see) and one on my calf (for other athletes to see) as I can’t decide which one to go for. It’s so annoying. I don’t think I can wait another 2 years to do another IM to get the 2nd tattoo. Where would you guys have it? I want the most exposure from it all the time but not on my forehead. Lol.
Only got a 10 miler next week for my long run so this was it for my long runs. brilliant.

Jenny1961 'Nothing wrong with 10 min mile pace for long runs Jase. That would be a good pace to do in Ironman although I expect I'll be including walk breaks in the run-leg which will bring average pace right down! You are lucky in managing to keep the gremlins mostly at bay- mine are constantly there!' added 11th Jul 2010
