MARATHON (no not yet), but its not just a chocolate bar - and its more than 26 miles

... and why did they change the name of the chocolate bar from 'Marathon' to 'Snickers' which as I understand is an american term for 'trainers'. What will they call it next, 't-shirt' perhaps.
Having 2 marathons under my belt, and a number of half marathons, countless 10Ks and 5Ks in training prep, as well as the weekly runs - people are astonished that a marathon is 26.2 miles, but i have to admit that it so isnt, multiply that by 10 - 260 miles or thereabouts is probably more realistic.
Im not a doctor, but i dont believe that anybody can just get up from there couch, chuck on a pair of trainers and give it some on the road doing 26 miles, now that is impossible. Like anything, its all about the training so in effect, with me now into my fifth week of training with over three months / 12 weeks or so left to go - i am already in effect running the marathon - doing it daily. Every mile i do near home, and every step on the stepper and every stride on the treadmill is preparing my body for the last 26 miles, but its not just about the 26 miles - if you get my meaning.
I guess this is why marathon running becomes so addictive as it is for me. The pride that you see in the faces of runners at the end of a marathon is not just to celebrate the end of a hard 3/4/5 hour run, but indeed months of physical training and mental preparation through what is ofter (as this blog, my berlin'08 and london'07 blogs also show) is a very regiourous and tiring training regime.
Roll on Sunday 25th October, the italian beer (Pironi, Stella, etc) is calling out my name. 3 Months and 1 Week to go.........
