Vulger Volga

Jul12200810:23 a.m.

We are in Krakow just now.  We went to auschwitz yesterday.  It was really quite haunting and made a big impression on us both.  It seemed incredible to think what happened there.  The area is so eerie and it seems that it has stuck in time.  The museum is very well done.  We went with a tour that took us to Auschwitz and Birkenau.  We saw all the personal affects like shoes and cooking utensils and suitcases.  The pictures of prisoners were particularly haunting.  An experience that we won't forget.

I went for a 12 mile run this morning along the banks of the Volga which was good.  I ran around the outskirts of the old town where they have paths, trees and shade in place of where the city boundary walls once were so that was pretty cool. There  were various hobos getting booked by the Polish police and I thought I might get arrested on account of my shorts.  Ran around the old town square which is the biggest medieval square in Europe and took quite a long time to run around.  Saw quite a few runners today so that restored my faith. My running belt with water holders is very much appreciated as are my shorts (even if they are illegal) and my watch and couldnt do it without my MP3. Got back about 9am to find John still in bed.  He had been drinking shots of Polish vodka until late last night.

This is a nice hostel but it is noisy.  One more night to go here and we're off to Berlin on a bus (10hours!!)  Looking forward to being there as we havent been in the summer. So the plan is to do 13 miles once we're home.......
