Two weeks of tapering
Oct0320117:49 p.m.
With the 20 milers out of the way, the last two weeks have been tapering with the midweek runs distance gradually decreasing as well as the weekend LSR. Last weekend the distance was 12 miles but I skipped this to take part in the Morecambe Bay Walk. This is something I've fancied doing for quite some time and never got the opportunity so when the chance came round this year I decided to go for it.
This is a guided walk across the treacherous sands of Morecambe Bay, starting in Arnside and crossing the Kent Channel to Kent's Bank. It was 7.8 miles, crossing the mud flats and then when we went across the channel itself the water was up to our waist. There were 400 of us doing the crossing with Cedric Robinson, The Queen's Guide to the Sands. It was a great day and something that I can now 'tick off' as having done.
So, back to the running...... Last week was the 2nd week of tapering and it was Tues 4, Wed 6, Thurs 3 and then on Saturday the LSR was 8. It was incredibly hot and I was glad it was only 8!
1) 12:03 2) 11:32 3) 10:41 4) 9:47 5) 10:00 6) 10:22 7) 10:24 8) 10:06 Avg pace of 10.38 so I was happy with that.
So, this week it's Tues 3, Wed 4, Thurs 3 and then on Sunday it's a little 26.2 mile jog round the biggest man-made lake in Northern Europe! LOL...... Really looking forward to it now, our friends are joining us so I will have some supporters and Kielder is just such a lovely place.
Planned all my meals for the week and am looking forward to the carb loading as it means I can have potato cakes as my mid-morning snack at work. It always amuses my work colleagues as I'm never one for snacking on anything but fruit, so they are always interested to see what's in the 'butty box'........
So, I'm almost there, another marathon looms. Unfortunately it's not the VLM as I was a reject again. I may look at doing another instead but haven't made my mind up yet.
As to my finish time at Kielder, last year I did 5:14. I'm not putting any pressure on myself except to say that I would like to do under last year's time. But, as always a lot can depend on the day and the weather. And up there, the weather will play a huge part as it's quite exposed in many parts.
Kielder here I come! .............
