Overview

I put my name down for the 2010 London Marathon and my family and friends thought I was mad.   Wink (I didn't get inCry)  Good thing really as my training was a washout.  Achilles and Asthma problems along with a major change in my personal circumstances all knocked my confidence but I finally feel like I've turned a corner and despite being a stone heavier than 5 months ago I'm going to take another bash at getting fit and see where it takes me.

Oh and somewhere along the line I hope to shed an excess 4 stone!!!!  (Almost 1 stone gone)

I'm starting again with walking to try and build my stamina up and I've got my bike so with the lighter evenings I hope to get out as much as possible. Along with a healthier eating plan hopefully I can get the weight moving to and use the wii to tone up.

Future ambitions.

First challenge to get fit and then see how it goes.

Second Challenge: 25/09/10  25 mile Walking challenge with LDWA

Another milestone .................

Monday – planned 15 minutes achieved ZERO.  Felt really rough and as most of Daughter BF family have had Swine Flu I immediately thought the worst however  the Pandemic website assures me there is nothing wrong as I don’t have a temperature.  So work as normal then attempt to sleep (not succesful).

Tuesday – planned Rest Day.  Still feeling awful but carry on with work then running round doing everyone elses chores before I go home to collapse in a chair.

Wednesday – planned 25 minutes,  Felt better on getting up so packed kit as club tonight.  Day went ok think it helped that the sun was out and Mr rain cloud had gone away!!! Managed a walk to see our latest attraction a family of Otters which have just been released into what is apparently the largest otter enclosure in Europe.  They all came out to play in their pond and put on a great display.  We also have some Beavers but I didn’t get to see them today apparently they are a bit reclusive and have only been on site a week so still getting used to their new home.

So back to running – Got to where the club meets and horror the Travellers have taken over the playing field so rather than what I had hoped which was a go it alone plod around the field I was dragged out with the rest of the Ladies which is nice but I always feel guilty for holding them back.  However they explained their route and I set off rapidly falling behind.  They’d planned efforts frankly just turning up had been an effort!! But I plodded on in their vapour trail.  At 19 minutes I turned around and headed back.  My plan was to run to the roundabout around the next corner then stop and walk however around the next corner was another straight then another corner and another straight.  I lasted almost 25 and a bit minutes before my lungs cried no more and I walked the last 14+ minutes back to the car.

19 minutes 1.35m

25 minutes 1.82m

40 minutes 2.69m

However it does show that a 5k run at the end of the month might be a physical possibility  which is when I’ve booked myself on a running training workshop still not sure about the 10k in September though and wish I opted for the October option instead despite the fact that it has more hills.

My right shin is feeling a bit sore today hopefully its nothing serious and then its15 minutes running tonight.

Slow but steady progress and I’m so pleased with the way its going.  Don’t think I’ll ever be a speedy runner but as long as I can plod round a few runs I’ll be happy.

Happy running and Good luck to those with races on.

You never know - we all start slow and short distances. it's tough at times but you'll very rarely do a run where you feel worse for having run.
Enjoy yourself and don't rush your progress. Then we'll see you in London come April.

Well done you! Nothing wrong with being ploddy :), speed will come once you get used to the distance. Hang in there, and one day you'll stop and realise 'wow!' ;0)

Thanks for your comment on my blog :)

Reading your post, sounds as though you're doing great. As kizzi says, no shame in ploddin'! Focus on getting the job done first, and then when (not if, WHEN!) you've done it, you can set about doing it quicker if you want to.

Keep at it x
