Well, I did my 4 mile run on Sunday, but I don't know how long it took me - my watch stopped.  How annoying!  Fortunately, I looked at my watch at the half-way point, it was still going then and it said 23 minutes.  So I guess I must have ran 4 miles in about 48 minutes.  And I was worried about my mp3 batteries going, I never thought about my watch!

Anyway, it was a good run on Sunday and it's a great feeling to know that you've ran further than you ever have before!  The only problem was that I was too hot.  It was a lovely sunny day on Sunday, the rain only reached us in the evening.  That's the first time that's happened to me (over heating), normally it's the other way around.  The only exciting thing happened at the end, when I was catching my breath.  A fisherman (I know, I only ever see fishermen and sheep!) asked me if I walked far and I was able to reply 'I ran 4 miles'.  I enjoyed that!!  He said he couldn't run 4 yards.

Last week I ran on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, for 25, 30 and 20 minutes, all just easy runs - no speed work so that I could manage the 4 miles on Sunday.  Today I'm planning on a tempo run, so I'll see how that goes.

I'm also starting to think about core strength.  Maybe I should be doing something about it??  I do a little, but not frequently enough to make any difference.  The problem with having rest days for me is that I find it hard to convince myself to do anything, after all, it's a rest day, right?  So, I'm putting it in print that one of my rest days will be for core strength.  There, no choice now - I have to do it!  If anybody has any good links on core fitness exercises or info I'd love to hear about them.  Hola kindly sent me the link to the 100 press up challenge - thank you!  I think that's going a bit further than I want at the moment, but I did ask!  Maybe that's something for the future.  http://hundredpushups.com/index.html in case your behind the times, like me.

Thanks for reading and happy running.

As for core exercises I am completely rubbish at concentrating on more than one thing and at the moment I'm only running - I've got a core exercise DVD and have done it once!! Good luck with the core jobbies! x' added 19th May 2009

    • Plodder35 'Hi 4 miles is fab! Ive really enjoyed reading through your blog and seeing the progress you have made - WELL DONE! I am currently doing the same as you and have set myself a goal of running for an hour without stopping. I started 4 weeks ago and can now run for 40 minutes. I'm building up my time a little each week and hope to reach my goal by (at least) the end of July. I love the feeling that running gives me and am getting fitter and halve also lost a dress size! Maybe we can spur each other on? Plodder35 (newbie!)' added 19th May 2009

    • tinabee 'Well done on the 4 miler - another landmark reached! Excellent idea to incorporate some corework. I try to do some everyday but definately as part of my running work out eg. after my run I do core/floor and stretching stuff. I have some good exercises I could send you if you let me have your email address.' added 19th May 2009

    • Hola 'I think Matt (Muffs) is the core exercise king - maybe he could pass some info your way. I used to do a lot of gymnastics and so core strength was key but I know I don't do nearly enough now. I should do more because I get quite a bit of lower back pain and I'm sure it would help. Congratulations on being able to say 'I just ran 4 miles!'. ' added 19th May 2009

    • judith 'Well done you. You are coming on leaps and bounds! Keep up the good work. The core work will help the running when you come to the end of the longer runs as it will stop you slouching. Keep up the good work.' added 19th May 2009

    • Petecw29 'Hi Luxaine, thanks for your kind comment x Definitely start some core strength work I had all sorts of problems with my calfs and hamstrings that the (very expensive) physio put down to my lack of core strength!! Now my marathon is over I'll be trying to do some core strength exercises - I've got a book with some in that I'll be trying, can't remember the name of the top of my head but I'll find it and let you know. I think you're doing brilliant with your running keep it up and you'll be able to enter a 10k soon x' added 19th May 2009

    • emmteeyess 'Just doing 2 weeks catching up with everyone - Wait till you start saying 'I've ONLY done 4 miles' - now that is being smug!! I tried those 100pushup things (spurred on by SallyHola) and got to week 2 I think, before I fell in a heap. You'll be fine if you do as well at it as with your running. Cheers, MTS' added 24th May 2009
