Wilting in the heat...

Hot
Tuesday evening is the time set aside for one of my now three weekly runs. As it was stupidly hot down here I thought I would venture back to the gym where at least they have air conditioning.
So turned up after work at the gym and yes it was fractionally cooler than outside but it was marginal. Was met as a long lost friend by a couple of the trainers which made me wonder when I was last down there (probably April) and even more so as I often refer people to the gym on “Fitness prescriptions”.
I set about doing some intervals on the treadmill, but was soon dripping profusely. I allowed myself a couple of minutes to “warm up”, then did a series of 1k sprints with a 2 minute slow bit between each. Needless to say the sprints got steadily slower, 12.5 kph, 12.6 kph, 12.2 kph, 11.9 kph and then 11.1 kph.
Felt strange running without Mr Garmin in the gym, felt I was betraying him (had the ipod instead).
Did some weights on the legs and I realised how much I had NOT done when they really started to make the legs tremble.
Then did 20 minutes on the hill walking machine which felt strange then 20 minutes on the bike (9.6k). Looked longingly at the rower, but as I was an exhausted soggy mess at that stage the idea of trying to pull out an 8min 2k was just never going to happen. So I headed home, thermometer in the car only 26 this evening.
Not sure what I shall do later this week for running – just too hot – give me snow anytime.
I also must add that I spent a lot of nervous energy on Monday evening watching some blokes patting a ball over a net under some sort of fancy Perspex roof. I wonder if that counts as cross training?

Muffs 'Yeah that counts as cross training. It did for me anyway. Don't pray for snow. You know what will happen when it does come. We will pray for it to be hot again.' added 1st Jul 2009
