I have realised what my running has been missing

Jun1920117:20 p.m.

Hi,

Well as I was running the streets of Reading I realsied what my preparation for the Great North has been missing...it is having a blog going and other people supporting me when the going gets tough. So here I am.  I have had a rough few months one way and another but have managed to be running 3 miles a couple of time a week but not feeling very motivated to do more.  That has changed as I have a palce to run GNR for Macmillan and the GSR the following month after being on crutches for it in 2010.

So this week, the plan has to be put into action.  I did a 3.5 mile run on Tuesday wigh a "nice" long hill mid way through; then a  gymn session on Thursday and a 5 mile run today.  I am a slow runner but enjoy the sense of achievement in doing things that as a young person I was always told that I was no good at.  Hence doing 5 miles in  56 minutes is slow but pleasing for me. Have done my stretches and ice on the leg and now sat on the sofa for the rest of the evening. I hope that others have had a good weekend given the unpredictably of the weather

  • Jenny1961 'Welcome back to RB land :). Your pace is right for YOU so don't think of it as being fast or slow! Well done on doing your stretches. I am ashamed to say I haven't done mine yet......couldn't face them after my long run but I will at least do my calf muscles and achilles before I go to bed! ' added 19th Jun 2011

  • crooxi 'Welcome back, Maxine, and good luck with the GNR training. I know that feeling of satisfaction at doing something I was supposedly no good at (the sports teachers at school were of the opinion I was hopeless at absolutely everything.)' added 19th Jun 2011

  • Hat 'Don't worry about your pace! There is so much angst surrounding speed, what matters is time on feet and enjoyment! Good luck with your GNR training! I look forward to reading all about it.' added 20th Jun 2011
