The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon team kicked off their training at the 15th annual Buddy's Race Against Cancer. And for a few it was their first race and all did super. Even though I told them (coach Kane) to jog/run the first half mile slower than they felt they should they admitted the crowds got them going and they took off a little too quickly. I ran with my daughter Gracie (7) and we got to run a little with David who was in his first race and did better than he thought he would. Then we ran a little with Sue who is "steady sue". Her goal was to keep steady easy pace and she did finishing ahead of us. But later she said "Missy I think you are right as I was determined to jog up all hills but if I had walked them fast it would have helped my time". Jenny and Bonnie on Blue team jetted off pretty quick and Michael too but they also finished strong too. So way to go teams (blue and green) as you all finished and had smiles on your faces afterwards. Michael, Brandon, Caroline, Donna, Sue, Bonnie, Jenny, David and Chevy and Bonnie you are off to a great start. And it is always a good feeling to support a cause like the Buddy's Race against Cancer to get your fired up to take care of your health too.
The Team will be training this Saturday with KTC training group at Runners Market Western Plaza at 7:30 We'll do easy 3 to 4 miles and some will jog/run and some walk. Then at 9 o'clock Kayla Matrunick a Registered Dietician with Fort Sanders Health and Fitness Center will give a free talk on hydration and nutrition.
