Still got the fingers crossed.....

Hmmmm still not much runing to report I'm afraid! Visited the physio on Wed who was pleased with my progress and said that I could try a gentle run and start building up the miles. YAY..... however not so YAY when I tried a run on yesterday morning.... Goose Foot injury now completely cleared up but the hamstring injury I'ce incurred from protecting my knee played up something rotten and I had to stop before I hit a mile. Many tears later I have booked in to see another physio for a second opinion after deciding that it was the end of the world!! Was feeling very down and emotional about it yesterday but today I feel a bit different.....
Last night Pixie Runner kindly took me swimming to the fabulous outdoor pool at her gym.... we had a lovely time gently swimming up and down and then sitting in the jacuzzi (it started to rain but we didn't mind) chatting about what my options were for the marathon.... do it or don't we decided! If I am told I can't do it I won't (but as yet that hasn't happened and starting to think I'm doing the whole paranoid drama queen thing again). I now think that I ran to soon after my physio appointment and that a little more patience was called for. I have cycled to work this morning (second time I've cycled in and I love it.... I only got overtaken once this morning which is an improvement on the 3 people that zoomed past me on Tuesdays trip!) and done a full set of stretches and I really think there is more improvement in the hamstring so much so I feel much more confident and think it's getting better by the day. Planning a test run on Sunday if it carries on like this... very gentle, possibly on grass!
In the last 2 weeks I have ran 17 miles (longest being 10 miles on the 7th Mar) before that my longest run was the 30Kon the 17th Feb (I had tonsilitis in between if you remember).... I have been cycling in between so I haven't just been lazing around grumbling.
I want to do it I really do...... can I? not aiming for a world record.... really thinking about just getting round before sunset now??? Advice much appreciated!!

simonedumergue 'Sorry to hear where you are at currently. The mental side of this marathon lark is very tough isn't it, particularly when dealing with injury issues. I know how you feel. I had three and a half weeks off running and when I went out for a LSR on Monday I had not done once since Feb 11th! However, I did keep my cardio fitness up and have been pleasantly surprised at how I have been able to get back in the game. A second opinion on the hamstring would be a good idea. I've had a real issue with a hamstring last year. My physio was a trained accupuncturist and used accupuncture on my hamstring to great effect. In fact - there was SO much tension in the hamstrong muscle (at two points along it) that the needles were bent when she took them out - all that tension being released. I came right after that session and a dedicated series of stretches that I still do to this day. I've covered off Plantar Fasciitis, ITB Syndrome, Piroformis issues, hamstrings problems and most recently shin splints and with the right professional help have got through them all with the training! Good luck with your decision. It's a very personal one that only you can decide, but it will be easier to make if you feel you have done everything you can on the treatment options front. All the best!' added 19th Mar 2010

Suziewee 'Crikey Simone seems to have covered most injury issues there! Go to your physio for the second opinion and take their advice. It sounds like a niggle that will settle and if you can keep you cardio exercise up you will be able to run again before you know it. You have a good base of fitness. If you really want to do it and finish the marathon i am sure you will and it will be fantastic, just be realistic as to what you can achieve. I have everything crossed for you and keep your chin up, you may surprise yourself.' added 19th Mar 2010
