The Days (and Long Runs) are getting longer
Feb09201211:38 p.m.
I took the day off from work today to visit my daughter's school, and used the extra free time to get in my weekly long run. Part of my motivation was that the weather here in New Jersey was fairly mild today but the weekend forecast is not as good.
Was just reading all the blogs about the continued snow and cold in Britain. This certainly makes long runs challenging. I hope things warm up soon. We had a little snow here last night but, other than a really strange snowstorm in late October, we haven't much snow to talk about. My skier friends are unhappy but my running has been able to keep on schedule.
My only complaint is that the long runs are increasingly a struggle. I had hoped that by now, my 9th marathon, this would get easier. I ran 17 miles today but the last half was harder than I would have liked.
My next long run is especially interesting. I'll be running 4 laps of a 5 lap marathon in 10 days in Albany, NY. This will be the first time in my life that I will ever "DNF" (did not finish) but I will be using the race as an opportunity to have a supported long run, with water stations and maybe even a few spectators. I'll be going with my neighbor, who is a much faster runner and will be doing the full marathon, so my goal is to finish my 4 laps before he finishes his 5!
Warmer days are coming!
