Overview

Hi there! We're Pam and Chris and are relatively new to running. The Great Manchester Run will be our first 10km race and we're really excited! We started running on and off a couple of years ago but have only properly got into it since last summer when we needed a serious stress-relief plan while planning our wedding.

Now that's all out of the way, we've found we have more time to dedicate to running and keeping fit. We started out pretty slowly - mostly moving at a speed not much faster than walking, moving our arms and legs in a fashion that resembled running - and have got a little bit faster and a little bit fitter. In the last year and a half or so, we've lost about 9 and a half stone between us, mostly because of running and are really looking forward to finishing the Great Manchester Run - it will be such an accomplishment for both of us!!

We named ourselves the Commonwealth Running Association Participants because Pam is Canadian and Chris is English, and also because the first letter of each word put together pokes a little bit of fun at ourselves (the last thing we do is take ourselves too seriously) and after all, we're not the fastest or best runners in the world!

Looking foward to reading about everyone's experiences and sharing all the ups and downs of our training, too!!

You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet...

Hi everyone! (a little Bachman-Turner Overdrive on the ipod today - ahhhhhh....another great band that Canada can lay claim to!)

Went out today, planning on doing a longish run (maybe 10km) but it was quite hot and very humid down by my old waterpark and I was feeling it so decided to see how I felt and cut it a bit sort. Ended up doing 7km in 39:47!!!!!!!!!! Woowooowoooo!!!!

Now - I tend to run 7km fairly regularly, as 10-11km are my long runs at the moment and I like to do at least 5km when I go out so 7 generally feels like a good distance for those non-speed/non-long runs. 40 minutes has been a BIG psychological 7km barrier for me for a while now and it felt amazing to break it. I have to say this has been a great week psychologically. I really didn't believe I could run fast without Chris because I've always been slow on my own before - but these past few weeks I've had no choice but to go out on my own, so it was a case of really trying on my own or not making progress -so I just put my mind to it.

Had some great Canadian music pop up on the ipod at around 4km, which I'm sure helped (it gave me goosebumps anyway). I think chris is planning to run tomorrow while I'm at fat club and I might let him come out to play on sunday as well  ;-)

Hope you all have good weekends ahead of you! We're meeting up with Sarah and Mike tomorrow for a hello and a congratulatory (on their engagement) drink in the afternoon (hmmm...seem to seeing a lot of you realbuzzer lot lately!!). You are a great bunch, though and we are very lucky to have made so many friends here! All the best and lots of love

xx

Congrats on breaking the barrier, never knew Bachman Turner Overdrive were Canadians, something new learnt, thank you

Running on your own is hard, but cn be well worth the additional effort as proved by your rewarding time.

Have a good weekend

It is strange but I found my times improved once I started training more often on my own. I did read in Runners World last week that we women lose more weight if we train on our own too (not sure how that works?). Anyways, a big well done on breaking that 40 min time. Hope Chris managed his run and that you both have a great weekend.
