You can go your own way....

Hello all

Chris here - just realised that we hadn't posted since GMR which was like ages ago! We've both been really busy (Pam with her PhD and travelling all over the place to conferences like the superstar she is, and little old me working with the hospital move team relocating Children's Hospitals in Manchester) and admittedly hadn't really been bobbing out much for running.

I mean, we've been doing a little bit here and there, but nothing serious. I've really wanted to do the City of Manchester run (despite it being the wrong colour of Manc) but was worried that I wouldn't be able to train. So I figured that, move schedule dependent, I would skip CoM and do Birchwood again if I could (mainly cos it ends right where Pam & I met!)

Over the weekend the Fruitcakes came over for a big training work. Lexi (the non-RB FC) damaged her foot so we have our fingers, toes and eyes crossed for her. Saturday was Pam's birthday so the girlies all watched the Sex and the City movie while I waited on, serving wine and nibbles in a very grown-up slumber party. I retreated to Facebook and got gassing with Mick, who gently encouraged me into doing the CoM.

So I now have precisely 13 days to train and get a base level of fitness back up for the race. Did 7k tonight in just under 40 mins, very hot and it nearly killed me. Actually, the distance was probably quicker as I had to stop twice for shoelace tying (something I never have to do) and once to not get run over.

Going to hit the Wii Fit tomorow to build some muscles (and practice swiveling my hips!) and another run on Weds. Wondering if it's possible to train up in a fortnight, and hoping I don't actually do okay as it may throw the weeks of training I usually do out of the window!

More than anything, just happy to have an excuse to go running. Cheers Mick! Think I need to have goals to aim for - guess I need to ensure I keep finding 10ks to do!!!!

Choo choo!

  • tinabee 'It definately does help to have a goal. If you managed 7K tonight with little else before it then you can manage 10K no problem - it is only another 3K after all. Just think of it as two Alex Parks back to back and you will be fine. You had a pretty good fitness base before so it wouldn't take too long to get it back and 13 days is nothing for a whipper snapper such as yourself (if Mick6 can do it you certainly can - lol!). Take care and hugs to Pam' added 23rd Jun 2009

  • AmyW 'You'll be fine big man, don't worry yourself! As Tina said, you've got a base level of fitness, so it's not like you're training from scratch - and the 7k proves that you'll do just fine. Thanks for being our cake / pizza / wine sherpa this weekend, and thanks again (to you both) for your hospitality xx' added 23rd Jun 2009

  • man_in_the_stand 'Sounds like you have both been really busy. Well done on the running. As has already been said, you have a good base level of fitness so are just building on that ahead of C of M. Will be good to see you there, it's a great race and this will be my 4th. Have a great week and say hi to Pam' added 23rd Jun 2009

  • peta 'You'll do fine on CoM and you will love it. Your base fitness is good, this will be a doddle. Glad to see the move went smoothly and I hope you both get some stress free time soon.' added 23rd Jun 2009

  • Johanne 'is Birchwood a 10K? if you've done 7K in under 40mins plus laces then you will cruise a 10K. 13 days is ages after all - almost a fortnight!' added 23rd Jun 2009

  • Mick_6 'To be honest Chris i'm in the same boat as you, not enough training but the thought of the race being so soon is doing it's trick and getting me out there. Go steady and we'll at least do ourselves justice. 7K in 40 mins is great keep the momentum going.' added 23rd Jun 2009
