Overview

I am now 43 years old and live in Gosport, Hampshire.

I have been distance running for 8 years and before that I kept fit taking abuse from footballers as a referee. I reached the semi pro level but gave it up when I realised I wasn't going any further and wanted a new challenge.

In 2007 I fulfilled a lifetime ambition and took part in the FLM. In truth I was disappointed with my performance but on a day as hot as it was I was not alone in that disappointment. Still I have the finishers T-shirt and medal that I will treasure forever.

Shortly after that I got injured, (probably the result of the hundreds of miles ran in training for the marathon). I needed a minor knee operation and although I am now fully recovered  but a little slower than I used to be (I am also a little older and a little bigger !!!).  One thing being injured and not being able to run taught me is that I love it and missed not being able to do it.

My other passion (besides my family) is St Helens RLFC but like most sports if the truth be known.

Going to plan

I am pleased to say all seems to be going to plan with three weeks to go before the GSR.

Monday saw a 7 miles done in 1.02.04, Tuesday was a rest day, Wednesday saw another 7 miles in a very pleasing 1.00.38. Thursday I decided to go for an 8 miler but not worry too much about the time. In fact I didn't look at my watch till I got home. It said 1.12.50 so not too unhappy with that.

Another rest day Friday. Today I went out early for a 3 mile run which was completed in 26.11. This afternoon it was the girls turn to run in preperation for their Junior GSRs. Both did 1.6 miles in good times though not quite as fast as last week due in part to the very windy condition.

Stats for the week is 38 miles ran in total and 3lbs weight lost. (that half a stone in 2 weeks)

On top of all that I had a great week at work and Saints beat Wigan tonight to get to the Grand Final. Only hope my luck continues, however, I fear all will come crashing down around me soon. Tin hat is on.

Hope to get 9 or 10 miles in tomorrow.

Take care everyone.

Some great training runs there and you must be chuffed to bits with the weight loss.

It sounds like you are on top form coming into the GER. A good positive mental attitude too! Well done on the runs and well done to your two girls.
